About two years ago, the owners of this beautiful St Petersburg, Florida waterfront home called Lee Rohner and Chris Boyll, owners of Floor Coverings International of St. Petersburg, for a consultation about replacing the laminate flooring in their home with natural hardwood flooring. This large waterfront home has beautiful views, a fantastic landscape, and outdoor amenities including a stunning infinity pool, but the inside of the home was in need of an update.
Lee and Chris brought their mobile showroom to allow the homeowners to select the right hardwood flooring in their own lighting and with the room’s furniture. While doing the in-home consultation to replace laminate floors with hardwood, they determined via a moisture meter that the reading was very high. When doing the demo of the existing floors, standing water was found on the slab. Chris and the installation team proceeded to dry out the entire floor with blowers, coated the concrete with waterproofing, and verified the reading was acceptable before installing new wood. The stunning walnut floors have been installed for about two years now and still look beautiful—with no moisture issues!
At the time, the homeowners also wanted to update their kitchen. Floor Coverings International of St. Petersburg installed a new granite countertop and a unique Boos solid wood top for kitchen bar and wet bar. Decorative backsplashes were also installed in the kitchen and bar area. Due to concerns of scuff prints on lower kitchen island, they recommended and installed complimentary porcelain tile that is easy to clean and more durable than existing drywall. The kitchen update is a great one and looks fabulous with the new hardwood floors.
Each of the 4 bathrooms were also remodeled by Floor Coverings International of St. Petersburg. All include a waterproof fabricated shower pan and wall boards. Each bathroom is a different theme with coordinating backsplashes behind vanities and decorative mosaics in the shower. All plumbing was designed for easy turn on of water without getting wet and custom shower doors for updated look with easy access and cleaning. Benches and niches were added to each shower for added convenience and design. Adding wall tile behind toilets allowed for a continuous and clean look topped with decorative trim to tie all together.
The master bath was a bit more of a challenge and design opportunity! The existing jetted tub took up a great deal of space and was outdated. It was removed and replaced a free-standing stylish soaker tub. The shower, that felt more like a cave, was demoed and walls were replaced with a new knee wall and custom glass window for more light and open feeling. This allowed a visual to the beautiful glass mosaic tile a backdrop we installed in the shower and niche that ties into backdrop for tub shelf and behind mirrors in vanity.
We were also able to add a much desired linen closet based on the redesigned shower. Even though shower is now a bit smaller, it feels much bigger and needed storage was accomplished. The floors are Carrera marble, that add the right touch of elegance to the timeless beveled white subway tile surrounding the shower. Additional lighting also brightens this beautiful bathroom and updated double sink vanity, with Quartz countertop and center tower, adds beauty and functionality.
All bedrooms were completed with luxurious Caress carpet with moisture proof cushioning, a great product for a waterfront home. The flooring was completed in about two weeks and the four complete bathroom remodels, backsplashes and wet bar took approximately eight weeks.
